"In quantum physics, there is such a thing as the observer effect, when the result of an experiment depends on the experimenter. The nature of matter changes its properties, photons of light transform from a wave state into a stream of electron particles, and the same object acquires other, new qualities. In Karina Olginskaya's works, the nature of light seems to be subordinated not to a random visual effect, but to the mysterious, aesthetically balanced idea of the author. Sunlight flashes and goes out the way the artist wants, still lifes gather in a necklace of meanings and unsaid phrases. Each work is a subtle melancholy of objects assembled by an elegant, oriental-scented hand of a dreamer. The light on antique porcelain and crystal is ignited by a spray of sparks, tearing the object out of Rembrandt's shadows, and mysterious shadows hide more unsaid secrets than the lives of their owners. The role of shadows is huge, their enveloping density is one of the author's achievements. Karina's photographs can be compared to the works of Caravaggio, and this sequence of tradition makes the viewer stop in the exhibition space or in a cozy living room and contemplate the silence and gentle sadness in such rare poetic photo paintings in our time."
